Surprise Home Expense and Repair

This week started out expensive! Surprise I found some plumbing issues.

I was bringing laundry upstairs and notices several bubbles at the top of my wall where the ceiling meets.

Got the ladder, climbed up and felt them and found out they had water in them.  Turned on the lights and saw water on the ceiling as well.  I cut open the ceiling and found a pinhole in a water line that led up to our kitchen.

So, I had to turn off the water to the house and noticed that there was a leak where the pipe connected to my water regulator and corrosion on the line coming into the house.

I shut off the water fixed the pin hole leak with my dad.

Quick and relatively cheap fix.

The main water line and water regulator got replaced by a plumber and that was not a cheap bill.  Thank goodness for a savings account for these types of emergencies. Homeownership is not cheap.

Key takeaways for me:

  1.  Add checking the main waterline to the house in my quarterly home maintenance checks. Take a look at my home maintenance checklist
  2. Keep adding to that savings account- who knows what might be next! Savings tracker

Have you all had a surprise expense this week?
